Blondie have today released Fun, their first new song since the release of 2014 album ‘Ghost Of Download‘. The track coincides with the announcement of their 11th studio album ‘Pollinator‘ due for release 5th May.
The album will feature collaborations with TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, Charli XCX, Sia, Dev Hynes and Johnny Marr and was recorded at the famous NYC recording studio The Magic Shop, which is where David Bowie recorded his final album ‘Blackstar’ and now unfortunately closed its doors.
Fun includes the classic Blondie sound we’ve become accustomed to throughout the years featuring catchy disco-synths from the off complimented throughout with post-punk guitar riffs. Then comes Debbie Harry’s vocals which are just as good as they’ve always been. I’m really pleased as we love Blondie here at Mojo20 and would hate to think they don’t still have it. Luckily; Blondie in 2017 sounds just like the band in their 80’s prime. Unsurprisingly, the track is just really “fun”, building up to a catchy chorus that’s stuck in my head since I listened to it. The track is co-written by the aforementioned TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek which I believe adds a layer of a welcomed indie-layer to proceedings.
Debbie Harry said of the band’s collaborators on the new album, all of whom have been influenced by Blondie:
“Their material is part of us and we are part of them. It’s a celebration of recycling!”
