So, for anybody that knows the ins and outs of Mojo20, we just got back from Transmission indie night, and I want to immediately thank all of the people there. What a night it was. However, some souring news came to us half way through, as we learned of the passing of the legendary, Chuck Berry.
For me, and this may be a subjective point, but he was the founder, the inventor and the king of what we now call rock and roll. He took the blues, that Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Little Walter were playing, and he transformed it into something new, revolutionary and incredible. As I said, it’s exactly what we call rock n roll now, and without him, what on earth would we be doing? He even had a brand new album, his first in 38 years, set to be released later this year, at 90 years old. So how poignant is it, that a rock n roll night, would be the setting for the discovery of his passing, and if you thought we finished it off with anyone else than Chuck, well you’re a damn fool. We got all remaining indie fans dancing and twisting to ‘You Never Can Tell’ as a well deserved thank you and goodbye to the man that got us here in the first place.
Thank you Chuck Berry, we love you and we appreciate you. You’re time was well spent and you will forever be remembered.
