Last night on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 show on Apple music, Royal Blood finally unveiled brand new music for the first time since their debut album in 2014. ‘Lights Out’ is their first track since then and it’s a welcome return for the Brighton duo that took over the music scene three years ago. Everyone has been wondering and waiting when they’ll be back and what they’ll have for us, and now all questions have been answered. The heavy guitars and earth shattering drums are still well and truly intact and as a precursor to upcoming album ‘How Did We Get So Dark’ it’s the perfect set up to another summer of rock, soundtracked by Royal Blood.
The single has the same insane bass guitar licks that we heard before, forever raising questions and setting new standards on how a bass guitar can be used to sound like a lead guitar. It holds a lot of similarities to previous tracks like ‘Little Monster’ and ‘Figure It Out’ but in a conformist world where new trends and socially driven expectations in music seem to win every time, it’s a great thing to see a garage rock band like Royal Blood stick to what they know and love, and still have the same effect as they did before, shaking up the entire music scene and encouraging everyone to go harder. We’ll certainly be looking out for the release of the new album and any future single releases beforehand, as Royal Blood begin their ascension back to the top of great British music.
