Everybody loves a great music biopic, and if you’re anything like me, a real visual presentation of the life, evolution and eventual success of an artist or band can make you a fan or enhance your appreciation for them even more. With this in mind the life story of The Smiths front man and legendary new wave performer Morrissey is set to be premiered on the 2nd of July and it is to be entitled ‘England Is Mine’. The film is set to detail the formative years for a young Morrissey, rowing up in Manchester in the 1970’s and will chronicle his upbringing, his entrance into the music world and his first encounter with The Smiths guitarist and living legend Johnny Marr. Of course fans of The Smiths and Morrissey’s solo works will not need it pointing out, but the title o the film ‘England Is Mine’ is inspired by the lyrics to The Smiths 1984 track ‘Still Ill’ featured on their self titled first album.

The feature length film will be shown as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival this year and following its premiere on the July the 2nd, it will no doubt be ready for public release in the months that follow. As far as documenting the life an times of a cult icon and modern day hero of the music business this film is a can’t miss and we, just as I’m sure all of you, can’t wait for it to be available.
