Here’s a quick shout out and a congratulations to one of our absolute heroes of music here in the UK, as Macclesfield DJ legend Mr Scruff hits a massive milestone in music this weekend, and you should all be involved. Back in 1999, Andy Carthy released his masterpiece ‘Keep It Unreal’ and it still remains an eclectic, diverse and inspiring album. Ranging from soulful to upbeat, ambient to downright hilarious, it spans every corner of what an album could be and encompasses them all with a style and grace unlike anything I’ve heard before. Upon its release 18 years ago, they launched it with a huge party and that party never ended. From there began a monthly club night going by the same name as the album, and the ‘Keep It Unreal’ monthly residency at Band On The Wall in Manchester is still going strong today. Still focused purely on the music and the moment it remains one of the coolest and most substantial monthly events in the country, and this Saturday Mr Scruff celebrates its adulthood with a marathon six hour DJ set and he’ll be joined by Jamie 3:26 while they showcase the absolute finest that Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, Disco, Afrobeat and Reggae.

See below for more details and if you’re in Manchester this Saturday night then make sure you make aim for Band On The Wall, as it’s going to be one hell of an evening.

You can also find our 2012 interview with the man himself right here.

Congratulations Mr Scruff, keep on keepin’ it unreal…
